Here is a thought for you Hugh: Sex and Love are (related) tools that God uses to give us Purpose. If we have sex with a dildo or female equivalent, we are separating Sex and Love and cheapening both. From a psychological point of view, promoting the idea of sex without love (porn, sex toys, etc) is an attempt to separate us from our Purpose.
Consider the psychology of ‘making love’ to an AI robot. It’s much worse. With simple porn you can tell yourself that sex is a physical need and you’re just taking care of your body. With the robot, if you know it’s a robot, you’re admitting that you have psychological needs and that you’re substituting for real human relationships. That is so sad. What purpose can your life have if you don’t even trust your own sanity?
Yes, in raising my five kids, my canned speech was to tell them to NEVER separate sex and love, and to always make them the same thing. They don’t understand at sixteen but now that they’re in their 20s and 30s I hope they do
Excellent article about the Greeks delineation of love. I uses their examples in my essay about marriage.
As this relates to sex, our modern world has reduced it to merely a mechanistic action, negating often the psychological aspect and most often the spiritual. When I saw the referenced article about sex robots I had to write an essay pointing out the dangers that I saw. This is a big topic, one that I think should be had more often instead of the finger wagging we give children as if teen pregnancy is the only possible "negative" outcome. It is so much more than that.
Wow. This very long post was well worth my time, and led me to think and pray deeply and take lots of notes. I hope your daughters grow up and read and appreciate your writing. Thank you.
Thank you for reading it. I am glad you found it worthwhile. I have been trying to find my voice as a writer, as well as a style that helps me express what I think and feel. (Plus you already have some of my favorite topics covered 😀) Topics like this and a few others are especially important to me because I have children. Hopefully my girls will appreciate my efforts. This is a tough world even with guidance and faith.
This topic drew me in because the magical relationship between Love and Consciousness is so elusive. I have written on these two topics: https://open.substack.com/pub/jmadden/p/what-is-love?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
